Public service announcements are a cost-effective method to partner with your local media to promote your Walk to School event. To use these radio PSAs, follow these easy steps:
- Download the PSA script Word or RTF file below. It contains several different scripts to choose from.
- Pick the PSA(s) that suit your program and community.
- Fill in the bracketed areas with your local information.
- Call local radio stations, and ask to speak with someone in the public affairs department or the news department.
- Request an on-air reading of the PSA(s).
- Supply them with the following script as a guideline for featuring your Walk to School event. Be sure to specify in your announcement whether your event is a one-day event (International Walk to School Day) or a month-long event (International Walk to School Month).
- You could also suggest the station feature a link on their web site to www.walktoschool.org.
- Another option is to recruit an on-air personality to promote your event during usual morning commute times.
